Caption:
Platforms and level crossing at Matlock Bath station, 30 September 1903. This station was opened in 1849. Matlock Bath lies in a steep sided valley, which is known as "The Switzerland of England". The station's architecture was designed to reflect this idea. Matlock Bath is a small town on the edge of the Peak District. It was a very fashionable spa town in the 19th century. The coming of the railways encouraged the growth of spa towns.
